Why The Samsung Galaxy S9 Is Still An Appealing And Incredibly Affordable Smartphone
Posted by iCoverLover on Nov 27, 2020
While Android fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the Samsung Galaxy S10, the S9 remains a good option for those looking to buy a new Android smartphone and don’t feel the need to have the latest and glitziest model.
Released in early 2018, the Galaxy S9 was notable for its head-turning design, superior performance, capable cameras that work especially well in low light, and beautiful display. While it wasn’t a class leader in any specific category, it still received generally positive reviews, especially for the repositioned fingerprint sensor and the enhanced cameras.
Though it has been over a year since the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were revealed, they’re both still incredibly appealing handsets, especially now that the prices are significantly lower and the spec sheets have been given a boost by newly updated software.
If you’re in need of a new Android phone but don’t want to spend excessively on the upcoming and much-hyped S10, we think you’ll be happy with the S9. Read on for more on why we think it’s a powerful phone that will suffice in 2019 and beyond.
What’s great about the Samsung Galaxy S9?
When it first came out, some people weren’t particularly impressed by the Samsung Galaxy S9. After all, it wasn’t a radically new device. It just seemed more like a newer version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 that came out the year prior.
But upon closer inspection, it became clear that the new Samsung Galaxy S flagship phone was — and is — one of the best Android smartphones on the market.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 has the same screen size, aspect ratio, and battery capacity as its predecessor. The smartphone’s Super AMOLED display flaunts a 1440p resolution. The Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch display while the Galaxy S9 Plus has a 6.2-inch display.
One of the biggest changes between the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the position of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. In the S8, it is beside the camera. For the S9, it was moved to a spot directly underneath the camera.
The more centralized position is a big improvement over the original location of the fingerprint sensor. But aside from moving the sensor to a more convenient spot, Samsung also added a more secure method for unlocking the S9. A new feature called Intelligent Scan combines iris scanning and facial recognition to make it easier to unlock the screen in low light or high light environments.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is outfitted with a new processor and the powerful Exynos 9810 octa-core chip that offers faster performance across the entire Android operating system. Even in 2019, the 12-megapixel main camera on the Samsung Galaxy S9 remains of the most impressive around. It boasts a variable aperture that opens or closes depending on the lighting conditions, making the camera one of the best ones for shooting at night and in low light settings.
As if all that weren’t enough, the S9 has been made more appealing by the recent release of Android 9 Pie and the new One UI skin. The latter makes navigation on larger Android devices easier by positioning the majority of the content in the bottom and middle portions of the touchscreen display.
One UI also features a brand-new aesthetic, with apps and icons receiving a whole new look. It also comes with a new dark theme geared for improving battery life. According to Samsung, One UI was designed to help users focus on what really matters to them.
What about the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus?
While the Samsung Galaxy S9 is definitely already an impressive device, if you’re more of a power user, then you may prefer the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. It has a whopping 6 GB of RAM, which is double the standard for similar devices. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is actually similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, but with a smaller battery, no S Pen, and just half the storage.
If you want a device that’s more powerful than the Galaxy S9 but not as bulky as the Note 9, then the Galaxy S9 Plus is your sweet spot. It has the same powerful processor and dual cameras as the Note 9. Just give the storage capacity a boost by using a microSD card.
Samsung Galaxy S10 features to look forward to
But what about the Samsung Galaxy S10, you ask? As the launch date for the next Samsung Galaxy S flagship phone approaches, it’s becoming clear that this device will be one of the most important releases from Samsung in recent years. The S10 marks the 10th anniversary of the Samsung Galaxy S line and the tech giant is expected to pull out all the stops.
According to rumours, there may be four variants of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10. They are said to come in different sizes, which includes 5.8-inch and 6.7-inch versions. Some sources say that the largest of the S10 phones will support 5G, have a total of six cameras, and have an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into the display.
There has been a lot of talk about 5G capability in the next Samsung Galaxy S phones — so much so that it seems increasingly likely, even just for the most expensive version of the S10.
In addition, some rumours indicate that at least some of the Galaxy S10 phones will have bezel-free displays with cutouts for the secondary front-facing cameras. There’s also talk that some of the S10 phones will have triple rear cameras and that there will be a telephoto lens on the most expensive Galaxy S10. Recently, leaked images seemed to suggest that the Galaxy S10 handsets will have fast charging capability.
As of now, all of these alleged S10 features are just that: alleged. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long before we finally get to lay our eyes on the Galaxy S 10th-anniversary offering from Samsung.
What we do know is that whatever the Samsung Galaxy S10 handsets look like, they will definitely cost a pretty penny. If you’re looking to buy a new Samsung or Android smartphone, we’re here to assure you that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is perfectly satisfactory.
