The ultimate battle between choosing the perfect smartphone from two-different Tech-Giants in the digital market is still on-going, for both companies are setting-up a lot of surprises for their fans by releasing a brand new, powerful smartphone every year, molding a battle between which brand creates a precisely strong smartphone that will dominate the market in the future. The current competition is controlled by Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy series, and the launch of a new flagship model sets the standard for every year's phone design and functionality.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 PLUS at MWC 2018. Samsung’s flagship 2018 phones is set to battle-up against Apple’s $999 Apple iPhone. While the iPhone X starts at $999, the Galaxy S9 is priced at $719.99, with the Galaxy S9 PLUS bigger, reaching $839.99 which totally shows a big difference when it comes to the price range.

Design and build

It’s immensely difficult to compare two smartphones in design in a market with so few variations, but with the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X, it’s quite more critical to differentiate both of these powerhouses when they’re both two of the most anticipatedly powerful smartphones of today.

The Galaxy S9 has a headphone jack, which is discarded by Apple in their newest flagships, while it has an infinite screen that sees the curved front panel on the sides of the phone.

The Galaxy S9 was launched with the label: “The camera, reinvented” and this means that Samsung is betting its sales to show that it has the best smartphone camera. Well, how does it really compare its camera system with Apple’s latest iPhone X?

The new Samsung phone is equipped with a 12MP rear camera, which has two openings (the part of the camera that limits the amount of light reaching the lens). These are set to F2.4 for daylight and F1.5 for night scenes. On the larger Galaxy S9 PLUS, you also get a dual-lens camera, which means you can create photos with enhanced depth effects, which use a “bokeh” effect to blur the background and these are totally the best for portraits.

The iPhone X, on the other hand, has a dual camera default. These 12 MP cameras also have different apertures, one has F2.4 and the other F1.8.

An important difference is the ability of the Galaxy S9 to record video in super slow motion. You can record at 960 frames per second, while the iPhone X can only hold 240 frames per second.

Apple tried to reinvent the emoji system during the summer with its own version, the Animoji. These characters were trained using facial recognition technology to follow a user’s face and then send short videos using their expressions. However, although it’s a new introduction of how Apple can be playful with technology, it can’t be denied that the Animoji has worked well within the public. This is more than you can say for AR Emoji from the Galaxy S9.

AR Emoji are similar to Animoji because they use facial recognition to track expressions. They also use your face to create a unique animated figure in the style of Bitmoji. This can also be sent to friends in GIF format. Samsung states that the AR Emoji uses 100 unique data points and a 3D modeling algorithm to map a user’s face without facing difficulty.

Processor, Power supply & Battery

Both the Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X have powerful processors and a decent battery life. Inside the iPhone X is a powerful Bionic A11 processor, while the Galaxy S9 has an Exynos 9810, also a powerful, high-end processor.

In terms of battery, the iPhone X has had a better life than the average battery all day. Although Apple does not indicate the size of the battery, it is reported that it is 2716 mAh. This is less than what Samsung currently has, which is 3,000 mAh in the S9 model and 3,500 mAh in the S9 PLUS.

RAM and storage

The S9 has 4 GB of RAM, the power that often determines the speed of the phone. The S9 PLUS has a huge 6 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the iPhone X has 3 GB of RAM, but this does not prevent it from being one of the fastest and smoothest phones that the Telegraph has ever tested.

For storage, in the S9 you get 64 GB internally and in the S9 PLUS you get 128 GB. In the iPhone X you do it a bit better with 64 GB or 256 GB. However, the S9 has an expandable memory of up to 400 GB, while it can not be used on iPhone X (but you can connect to iCloud to store files online).
