Samsung Raises the Bar with the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 Unveiling New Flagship Foldable Phones

Samsung Electronics once again proved its dedication to innovation and quality during its Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event held on July 26. The event highlighted Samsung's commitment to leading the foldable smartphone market as they announced two new foldable devices, Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5, three updated tablets, and the return of the classic model in their smartwatch line.

Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5

Pioneering new standards for the folding phone market, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 encompass an array of enhanced features. They are equipped with the Flex window and Flex Hinge that ensures an immersive folding experience with a balanced design. The fifth-generation foldable phones, Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5, are designed to offer unique experiences for every user, boasting a sleek, compact design with countless customisation options, professional camera capabilities, and high performance.

The Galaxy Z Flip5, the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip4, comes with a major upgrade. Its standout feature, the Flex Window, is nearly four times larger (3.4-inch) than the previous generation. The larger window makes it possible for users to easily reply to messages, check notifications, control music, and keep up with various data such as the weather and calendar, enhancing user interactivity. In terms of camera upgrades, the FlexCam allows users to take high-quality selfies and capture photos from creative angles, hands-free.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold5, the latest flagship foldable phone, feels more premium, largely due to the new waterdrop hinge. It is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and supports the improved S Pen Fold Edition pen. Furthermore, the brightness of the main screen has been improved by 30%, up to 1750 nits, ensuring an optimal outdoor viewing experience. Samsung also announced three new tablets, the Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, and S9 Ultra. All three tablets offer immersive viewing and creative freedom, a shift from last year's video-focused S8 series. Remarkably, they can be used underwater, presenting new possibilities for creative expression. The IP68 rating indicates that the Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, and S9 Ultra can be submerged in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater and dust for as long as 30 minutes. The S Pen, which comes with the tablets, also boasts an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The only requirement is to ensure the charging port is dry prior to charging.

Finally, Samsung revived the 'Classic' model in its Galaxy Watch line. The Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic have a 20% larger display and a larger keyboard. The Galaxy Watch6 series' design focus is health and fitness, boasting slim bezels and various improvements for an enhanced user experience. The Galaxy Watch6 series enhances the wearing experience and introduces entirely new models that provide a better overview, more power, and a broader array of more adaptable and comfortable options.

Reading and writing are easier on the 20% larger screen, which displays more text and has a larger keyboard, all the while maintaining a comfortable size. The more vibrant screen with a higher resolution boasts the highest brightness of 2000 nits and an Always-On Display brightness adjustment feature, enabling users to see and do more even in strong sunlight. The Galaxy Watch6 device, powered by an improved processor and memory, facilitates smoother and faster interactions.

The Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic have a 30% thinner bezel and a 15% slimmer rotating bezel, further emphasising the beauty of the signature circular frame. The Galaxy Watch6 series features new elegant, interactive, and informative watch faces that make the most of the large screen. New straps that attach with one click allow users to easily mix and match watch bands. For instance, the new lightweight fabric strap and the Sleep Coaching watch face pair perfectly, helping you gain useful sleep and comfort information.

The Galaxy Watch6 series has a larger battery and less energy consumption, supporting a larger and brighter screen. With just eight minutes of fast charging, users can add an additional eight hours of operation, which is ideal for overnight sleep tracking.

With the Planet in Mind

In line with Samsung's environmental vision, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 contain more different recycled materials than previous generations, contributing to Samsung's goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by the end of 2030 in the Device eXperience department. Each device is guaranteed five years of security updates and four generations of operating system upgrades, helping extend the product's lifespan and creating a positive impact on the planet.
